How to Make Sure Your Embroidery Lasts

You've just bought your new favourite home decor - hand embroidery - but how do you ensure that the embroidery stands the test of time? Read on for my tips.

Made to Last

All of my hand embroidery pieces are created to last a lifetime, allowing them to be treasured forever. However, there are some tips on how you can ensure the longevity of your piece.

Keep Away From Moisture

Like all things fabric, it’s best to keep hand embroidery pieces away from moisture. This means that you should not place your embroidery in a kitchen or bathroom, as the moisture may cause the threads to break up over time, and could also lead to mould.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Embroidery looks beautiful when catching those last rays of sunshine on a sunny day, but leaving your embroidery in direct sunlight all day every day can lead to the colours fading.

Caring For Your Art Tips

Cleaning

Don't forget to dust your hand embroidery hoop if it's hanging on the wall or propped on a shelf. Avoid using anything chemical based as it could damage the fabric and threads - instead simply wipe with a duster or fabric cloth.

Store In a Box Frame

You can also mount your hand embroidery hoop in a shadow box frame, which will allow it to be protected behind the glass whilst also adding dimension and making your embroidery a statement piece on your wall.

Choose Frame Over Hoop

All of my embroidery products can also be made in a photo frame rather than a hoop if you prefer. Please just contact me prior to ordering so that we can discuss frame size and colour.

Overall, hand embroidery makes a great addition to any home, as it adds character, texture and colour. To ensure that your embroidery is fell looked after and lasts for years to come, I’d recommend showcasing your artwork away from moisture and sunlight, but in full view for people to admire!
